  1. Coal has had its day. The present Latrobe Valley has lost an estimated 30 to 40 farms in less than 90 years due to open cut coal mining. This is land which will never be farmed or lived on again. With the massive increases in coal extraction mooted by the state govt, imagine the masses of farming land which will be destroyed in another 90 years. We now have the opportunity to produce base load electricity from solar thermal plants supported by wind, hydro and soon to come on line ocean wave. Why would we continue to destroy our future wealth by destroying the land and destroying our atmosphere by continuing to extract and burn coal, when we have our energy needs provided from clean sources.
